Judicial Clerkships

Judicial Clerkships Committee

Welcome to the BYU Law Judicial Clerkships web page. This page is hosted by the Judicial Clerkships Committee, which consists of Tom Lee, Bradley Rebeiro, Gordon Smith, Shannon Grandy Larsen, and Karen Andrews.

The mission of the BYU Law School Judicial Clerkships Committee is to assist students in obtaining clerkships. Members of this committee can help the applicants in numerous ways, including assistance with the decision on which courts and judges to target, preparation of application materials, and preparing for interviews.

Once you have reviewed all the materials on this website, please visit with Karen Andrews or Shannon Grandy Larsen. They will assist you with any questions you still have and will help you determine what sort of clerkships are best for you. After you’ve met with them, you may fill out this Clerkship Committee form to be scheduled for a meeting with Professor Lee, Rebeiro, or Smith to discuss further strategy for applying to clerkships.

FAQs

Sample Cover Letters

Cover letters should generally be short and simple—along the lines of sample letter 1. In limited circumstances, a student may submit something like letter 2 (specific geographic connection) or letter 3 (application to a court with a specific subject-matter focus, like a bankruptcy court).
